Thank You For Supporting Us

Sustainability is essential to our ministry! We have regular ongoing expenses for payroll, supplies, insurance, utilities, and other costs to support both the Men's Shelter and Hope House. We need a regular income to cover those costs. We apply for grants from the government and other agencies, but our biggest support comes from the community - wise people who recognize the importance of helping people in need as well as the benefit to our community when those facing housing insecurity have somewhere to turn.

NOTE: To sign up to give of your time or to provide meals, please use our VOLUNTEER PAGE.

To schedule a drop off time, call the Shelter Manager at (252) 820-0701

Please don't make up bags of donations ready to hand out to our guests - we end up unpacking and storing the items so they will be available as needed. It is much easier for our staff and volunteers if you send everything in it's original packaging. You may want to make up toiletry kits which can be packaged as a project - just please conform to the list of items to be included below.

Below are the supplies we need the most. NOTE: There is also a list of things that we do NOT need - please take those items to thrift stores or other agencies.

Toiletry Kits

When a man arrives at our shelter, we give him new underwear, socks, pajamas, and a toiletry kit for his personal use. The toiletry kits all contain essentially the same items, so if you would like to donate some kits, please follow the instructions below. Kits donated with different contents will be unpacked and reloaded correctly. We keep backup supplies of all of these items to replenish the kits as needed, so please use sample sizes which don't add extra weight to a backpack. You can also donate travel sizes of these products individually: Mouth Wash, Deodorant, Chapstick or other lip balm, Soft tissue packs for pockets, Foot spray or powder.

Please put one each of the following items into a one-quart zip lock bag - please stick to travel sizes.

THINGS WE REALLY CAN’T USE - PLEASE donate elsewhere

While we appreciate the generosity, we do NOT need Blankets, sheets, pillows, towels, shampoo, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hats, scarves, woven gloves, coffee mugs, or hand sanitizer. If you have donations of used blankets, coats, clothing, etc, please take them to the local thrift stores. These places have the personnel and equipment to wash everything before it is used and we have a working relationship with them so that we can go to them to get what we need when we need it. SALVATION ARMY and LIFELINE both have collection centers on Raleigh Road. FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH HAS A FREE CLOTHING CLOSET - open when they host the soup kitchen on 4th and 5th Sundays of each month. Call for drop off time - (252) 438-8791
